The grandaddy of Aussie rocknroll, and one of the greatest - TopicsExpress

The grandaddy of Aussie rocknroll, and one of the greatest performers this country ever produced. A man who transcended his limitations (he really wasnt that great of a singer, lets face it) and who in his heyday was without doubt the most dynamic and powerful stage performer anyone had ever seen in this country. And he was backed by one of the best groups ever assembled up to that point, the magnificent Dee Jays, whose ranks included such luminaries as jazz legend Bob Bertles, and his amazing Ambon-born guitarist, Lou Casch. Yes, this is the original version of the song later covered by Iggy as Real Wild Child. Legend has it that JOK wrote this after a wild gig at the old Burland Hall in King St, Newtown, when some of the rockers at his show got into a fight with guests at an Italian wedding downstairs, which apparently escalated into a full-scale riot that required the calling-in of military police to restore order. Sadly, although Johnny was able to transcend his limitations as a performer, he ultimately wasnt able to beat the demons that pursued him, most of which stemmed from the after-effects of the horrific car accident that nearly took his life in 1960.
