The great principles of biology - the one that, as far as we know, - TopicsExpress

The great principles of biology - the one that, as far as we know, distinguishes the biological from the physical sciences - is evolution by natural selection (Dragons of Eden). This quote sparked a few questions in my brain, namely the notion of elemental evolution. Is it possible over a long span of time for elements to evolve as well? Are atoms subject to the reproduction process? If so, can they reproduce/clone themselves infinitely? [Food for thought.]
