The hands-down winner of the most beautiful beetle award from the past few months goes to this Macrodactylus scarab that I found by virtue of my poor posture (I was looking at/near my feet) while hiking up Las Caucheras Road on my way to camp last time. There it was trying to crawl along but having a seemingly rough time of it. I wasnt sure what it was till I picked it up and was able to eyeball it at closer range. I think this may be a species Ive collected before but if so, the first one had lost most of its blond toupée. And if so, its also my second local Macrodactylus species. If not, its my third. (I tried to dig up images of that earlier similar find but failed.)
