The hardest part about writing, for me, is writing the next thing after youve written something youre proud of. Youre afraid you will never, ever, ever be able to do it again. This week is the week of the second draft. Im proud of the first draft of this book, but it needs a lot of fleshing out. Jennie Nash tells me this is normal for people who are used to writing blog posts...they havent trained themselves to write with the depth that books are made for. So even though Im one of those writers who edits ruthlessly as they go (a terrible habit Ive yet to overcome), Ive still got a lot of writing to do. Most people like second drafts because they get to fix the things that were broken in the first draft. I, however, am afraid of messing up what Ive already written. Ive heard of people buying new cars and then taking a key to the side so they wont feel anxiety over messing it up. I think I need to take a key to the side of this thing. Anybody got a red pen I can borrow?
