The heart-wrenching incident that took the life of able-men and women, leaving many injured is a glare picture of our countrys economic situation. As against my nature to criticize the government for their negligence but proffer solution and this my suggestion to help our ailing economy. I have been in the vanguard of those calling for the redirection of our pitiable over dependence on oil to other sectors like agriculture. It is the truth that agriculture is the bedrock of every countrys economy. It not only provides food for the population but also raw materials for industries which leads to increase in standard of living and raise the GDP of a nation which in our own case is at abjectly low. There is need for radical and immediate action to be taken by the citizens and government especially the later who has huge role to play. In this writing, I solely focused on the role of the citizens while that of the government will be discuss in subsequent discourse. The Nigeria citizens lack of regard and respect for farmers is induced by their perspective of the farming profession as an unprofitable venture and as an occupation for the illiterate and frustrated ones and so apathy towards it. This has discourage great number of farmers and young men who are not fortunate to get education and the literate into the farming business. I ardently believe that a shift in perspective in seeing agriculture as an essential contributor to the growth of our nation. We help us to the consciousness of the need to support and appreciate the depressed farmers through providing ideas, educating the people on the viability of agriculture , obtaining of loan, grant, etc also to recognized that as we diminish them we also diminish ourselves this will enormously enhance their production and also making it attractive to young men and women. My heart felt condolence to the families of the victims. God will give you the fortitude to bear this loss and those injured speed recovery is yours.
