The high overhead backhand clear and smash is the most technically - TopicsExpress

The high overhead backhand clear and smash is the most technically difficult of all strokes in badminton. As a professional badminton coach form 1982, this is my advice to all who want to improve: grip the racket loosely in a forehand grip; relax but focus on the shuttles path towards your high backhand side; turn (and step/chasse if necessary depending on how deep the shot is going into your backcourt); raise, bend your arm at the elbow, cock your wrist and point your elbow upwards; execute the stroke with a sharp tapping action with emphasis on sharp crisp timing whislt minimizing any movement in your head and shoulders; after (and only after) the strike, turn back towards your opponents court and prepare for the next shot. This stroke requires a lot of practice and strengthening the forearm and wrist with special exercises using heavy rackets will help a lot but the main emphasis is on technique and timing. The bio mechanics of the stroke from an anatomical point of view as regards the skeletal/muscle structures of the arm/wrist is one of SUPINATION OF WRIST AND FOREARM.
