The hose is oscillating to the 24 Hz frequency and the camera - TopicsExpress

The hose is oscillating to the 24 Hz frequency and the camera captures its image at 24 FPS...no apparent motion captured on the video. The frequency of the sound is increased to 25 Hz and the 24 FPS camera captures the relative motion of one wave per second. The frequency of the sound is decreased to 23 Hz and the 24 FPS camera captures the relative motion of one wave per second in the opposite direction. The knob changes the frequency of the sound. This is the same type of optical illusion one sees when watching car wheels spinning faster until they apparently change direction at a certain speed. Your eye processes movement at about 30 FPS and, when the tire begins to rotate faster than 30 RPM, the tire appears to slowly begin to move in the other direction: Optical Illusion.
