The human mind is a castle, with each of us presiding as the king - TopicsExpress

The human mind is a castle, with each of us presiding as the king of our own castle. Our relationship with our mind is one of symbiosis, in the sense that as kings, we operate the castle, and are responsible for keeping it in good condition... Keeping the residents of the castle happy, keeping the troops updated and strong, and maintaining the structure of the castle so that the castle does not wither away under the many sieges it will endure, sieges of both natural and human origin. In turn, the castle shelters us, sustains us, and holds inside it, the many treasures we have collected throughout our journeys to lands beyond the walls of our homely fortress. Ah yes, indeed... Journeys beyond. They are just plain wonderful, sometimes. Other times, our journeys outside our castle are uncomfortable, as there are perilous and difficult lands out there to be traversed during our journeys. Often times we meet people on those journeys: we meet other kings, and perhaps queens, and we admire their castles theyve built and maintained for themselves. We may want to go inside their castles, if we admire those kings and queens enough. They may allow us inside, if they admire us as well. If all goes well, we will leave that castle having formed an alliance, or established a trade of ideas and goods, with that king or queen. This is friendship. Building our castle takes a lifetime. It is a process of balancing both journeying beyond your own walls - finding treasures, experiences, and alliances to bring back - and staying inside your castle, maintaining it, rearranging it, updating it, advancing it, keeping it alive and well. Defending it from attackers, from storms. Repairing it. You cannot expect to add something to your castle if you sit inside it all day. You must go out and... Well, find that thing you want. And it may be bloody difficult and take a long time. But that thing you want? Its out there. Definitely. You may have to advance beyond the mindset of castle life, and be the first to build a rocket ship and go to the stars to get what you want, but you know? What you want.. Ill say it again, its out there. On the flip side, one cannot stay away from their castle for a long time, exploring other worlds and lands, and expect their castle to hold its own while they are gone. We can become distanced from our castle for too long. It will crumble without our guidance, our care, in time. It is our responsibility to know when our castle needs us home and present, to weather the storm, or defend from the siege.
