One advocacy group says it works with 30 new kids a month and expects the number to skyrocket within four months as the child immigrants are released from shelters. There are 6,000 juvenile cases now in New York Immigration Court, said Claire Thomas, a lawyer working through the Safe Passage Project at New York Law School. . “Without a lawyer, I don’t know how a kid can do it,” Thomas said. .
