The immigration battle being fought in DC and at our own doorstep - TopicsExpress

The immigration battle being fought in DC and at our own doorstep can result in a heated argument. We are a divided populace on the subject of amnesty. Each side can present valid arguments for their stance on the subject, it just matters from what perspective you are looking at it. After having lived and worked with a large portion of the immigrant population I can say that the immigrants of yesterday embraced and welcomed the culture of the US, a melting pot for all those seeking a better life. The "new" populace of immigrant demand we embrace their culture, their language and provide them a better way of life. When a non English speaking person calls my office and demands that I learn Spanish in order to understand him there is a huge problem. When an illegal immigrant stands at the local 7-11 looking for day work and then is picked for day work and his demands are: breakfast, lunch, transportation to and from the job site and 150 dollars cash, there is a problem - on both sides of that issue. I understand the argument on both sides of the fence, but cannot and will not in good conscience ever agree that amnesty is deserved or warranted. In this country we do not reward criminals, we punish criminals. We are all, at some level, descendants of immigrants, unless we are Native American, the difference being the type of immigrant. The "new" immigrant has already proven they are willing to break the law for their own gain, why does anyone think that type of thinking is going to change because vote pandering politicians wave their magic wand and grant them amnesty, a total forgiveness for all past criminal acts. Secure the borders, enforce the laws on the books
