The internet of things is supposed to be where a bunch of ordinary devices will be connected to the internet and be able to help you run your life. Light bulbs, refrigerators, household thermostats, water heater, dish washer, clothes washer the list goes on. But Im wondering if there might be something MORE, call it the internet of components. Its almost like the internet of things, but the things get just a little smaller. When I was a kid I had one of those 100-in-1 electronic projects kits. Youd build functional electronic circuits to do stuff... a radio, sure, but also maybe a sound generator that would be wired to a light sensor or a heat sensor so that it was one pitch when bright or hot and another when it was dark or cold. This required connecting the sensor to the speaker through a variety of resistors, capacitors, coils, and transistors. In the internet of components the sensor would be internet-ready and the speaker would be internet-ready. Youd connect these together through an internet router and have a computer somewhere in the middle. What was done with electrical engineering and circuit design knowledge may evolve to the point where its done with wiring to a router and computer programming.
