The last couple of weeks have been full, busy and a lot of fun! On a personal note, got to attend an incredibly fun concert from one of my favorite bands who just happen to be Irish! (...can you tell from the picture I was excited?) Then this past Wednesday, Phoenixs Roosevelt Row invited the ICC to set up a table at their weekly Wednesday Wind-up at Civic Space Park, just across from ASUs Cronkite School of Journalism. The international theme was great fun and the attendees (not to mention those of us who were manning the booths) were treated some wonderful performances, including a Japanese-inspired druming group, and Ballet Folklorico! I was so glad to be a part of it. The Cultural Center and its affiliates were also honored to welcome Irish Vice Consul Mr. Kevin Byrne, who serves at the San Fransisco Consulate. The Consulate assists the public throughout the Western States with not only Irish citizenship, passports and visas, but also provides cultural, economic and other information about the strong links between Ireland and the US. We are grateful for this visit and excited to continue working with the consulate! Friday night held the annual Anam Cara (Soul Friend) Awards Gala, and what a night it was! Every year, honorees are presented with this award as a way to say thank you for the contributions they have made to our community - this years recipients were John Hartnett, Founder and CEO of Irish Technology Leadership Group; Arizona Senator John McCain; and Janice Ryan Bryson, historian and author of Irish Arizona. We all enjoyed a wonderful night! Finally, a huge thank you is due to the Irish Cultural Center, McClelland Irish Library and Saint Patricks Day Parade and Faire Committee for being a gathering place for Arizonas Celtic communities, and continuing a vision for education and passing down our heritage to the next generations of Arizonans. Looking forward to the next few weeks of events...stay tuned!
