The latest satellite image (courtesy of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory) of Tropical Depression Nine shows the system remaining poorly organized. Its currently being investigated by a U.S. Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft. The depression is centered at 7 a.m. CDT / 8 am. EDT about 120 mph west-southwest of Campeche, Mexico. Its been nearly stationary during the past couple of hours, but should begin moving toward the east later this morning. On the forecast track, the system will approach the coast of Mexican State of Campeche today and tonight and then move across the Yucatan Peninsula. Maximum sustained winds are 35 mph, and the depression could become a tropical storm before it moves inland. A Tropical Storm Warning continues along the coast of Mexico from Celestun to Frontera. Tropical storm conditions are expected there within in the next 24 to 36 hours. Total rainfall accumulations of 5 to 10 inches, perhaps as high as 15 inches, are expected across the Yucatan Peninsula. These rainfall amounts may produce life threatening flash floods.
