The lights were on, and the word “open” showed prominently on the door of God’s Goods. If you look up the meaning of open in the dictionary it means: “Allowing access, passage or a view through an empty space; not closed or blocked up.” Sometimes life can feel like an empty space. It’s all about what we let in and what we block out. Usually our volunteers are on the lookout for people searching for just the right piece of furniture or just the right appliance to fill an empty space in their homes. There is even a wish book at the customer care desk to record the items needed. Late last week, a lovely woman stopped at that desk to speak about a need that had been met in her own life. Pat, our customer care volunteer, listened carefully to her words. The woman spoke of a quest to find her birth parents. She was unsuccessful for many years but in her heart she always carried hope. Karen D’Alba was adopted fifty years ago. The only clue she had to connect her to her birth mother was a tiny silver angel. It had been pinned to her clothes the day a nun turned her over to her adopted mother. All these many years that pin played a role in her life. She even pinned it on her babies’ clothes when they were baptized. Finally, with help from adoption databases online, Karen was directed to the Arizona Adoption Registry and then to a website called PattyTheSearchAngel.” Her birth mother’s name is Nancy Spear. A wonderful reunion was the result of her long search. Her empty space was filled. Do you have an empty space? There is a ready passage which allows access to the One who can fill our hearts with love and life everlasting. Please keep the door open.
