The local media are so fixated on the Oscars that all the great movies were showing this weekend are probably going to be ignored. But dont you overlook them: the banned-in-China new Chinese film A TOUCH OF SIN tomw at 7 pm; the Israeli comic thriller that Quentin Tarantino called the best movie of 2013, BIG BAD WOLVES, tomw at 9:30 pm; Ingrid Bergman in Roberto Rossellinis 1949 classic STROMBOLI Sat at 5 & Sun at 1:30; Noam Chomsky in Michel Gondrys new doc-toon IS THE MAN WHO IS TALL HAPPY? at 7:05 Sat & 5:10 Sun; and the inspiring nonfiction film FOLLOWING THE NINTH: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF BEETHOVENS FINAL SYMPHONY Sat at 8:55 & Sun at 3:30. You could see all these terrific movies (zero Oscar nominations, by the way) and still be home Sun night to watch the awards.
