The mains last night were chock full of great action and tight battles. Of them all, most of the crowd thought the race of the night was 17-18x. With 47 riders, the final 8 who made the main are all Terrible-10 contenders, and every spectator was anxiously awaiting the fall of the gate. With the snap, it was San Deigos Jacob Abbe, on his new Rift frame, flying the Tangent gear out front with his usual smoothness and speed. By turn 2, Redlines new pickup for 2014 - Collin Hudson, started closing the gap and set him up by turn 3 for a drag-race thru the windy rhythm section. Also on the prowl, taking the right lane was Haro-Promaxs Andrew Townsend. Abbes lead was in jeopardy, and what would you do? Swerve to the left and hold off Collin, cut to the outside to keep Townsend at bay, or just hold it straight and see whos got the most rhythm? Abbe opted for the latter, and found that Hudson had enough momentum to fly by and take over the lead. Townsend, too - was able to carve the high line in the last turn to nip the Tangent rider by the finish. Whatta main! 17-18 EXPERT 1 COLLIN HUDSON, REDLINE - CO. 2 ANDREW TOWNSEND, HARO/PROMAX - VA. 3 JACOB ABBE, RIFT-TANGENT - CA. 4 ALDEN VOLLE, DANS COMP - CA. 5 COLE TESAR, FBN/C-YAA - NC. 6 JUSTIN ANDERSON, SUPERCROSS - CA 7 JARRED JOHNSON, EXTREME TEAM - OH 8 DERIK BERGH, ANSWER./RENNEN - MN
