The mass of granite above us looked deceptively accessible after spending so much time breaking trail. This is my favorite terrain - beautiful, solid, alpine granite. The ridge climbing was fast and enjoyable, lending us access to the rock face above. Mansail peak is about 22,000 feet tall; a granite triangle surrounded by glaciers on all sides. The closer we got, the more obvious it became that the tiny triangle block we saw from a distance was a huge roof requiring technical climbing and perhaps more gear then we brought. Nonetheless, from the top of the last tower we could reach - perched at 20,130 feet - we had a perfect view of Mustang Himal and the surrounding peaks. As the last light of the day hit us, we rappelled off the granite ridge and back to the little trail we had cut into the glacier. No summit on Mansail peak for us, but it didnt matter. We all felt relaxed and content with a beautiful day in the mountains that we came to climb. We found our way back to our high camp as darkness surrounded us. Having finally found the peaks was a relief, but we still had a significant objective in the week to come. #mustangmystery #liveyouradventure With Ben Jones and Jon Mancuso Photo Credit: Jon Mancuso
