The mental-health profession is a very dangerous work environment....Challenging the personal demons of disturbed individuals opens doors which, in some instances, perhaps should have remained closed....It is a blessing that Psychiatrist Dr. Lee Silverman of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was carrying a personal firearm Thursday when deranged individual Richard Plotts, while ranting about his displeasure regarding Mercy Fitzgerald Hospitals gun ban, shot 53-year-old caseworker Theresa Hunt to death during an appointment....Dr.Silverman properly and directly acted rapidly by shooting Plotts three times after Hunt was shot, realizing that he himself, along with others, were in grave danger.....From the Epilogue in my book, Necessary Candor:....In November of 2005, while I was living in Phoenix, Arizona, and at home recovering from July, 2005, heart attack surgery due to a ruptured and separated upper aorta, I read the tragic news on the internet, that my original-hero treating psychologist, trusted friend and all-around together wonderful, caring and insightful good-guy human being, Dr. Ira Eugene Polonsky, Ph. D., had been murdered in his office on Capitol St. in Vallejo, CA, by a large man carrying a gun who had entered the office building as one of Dr. Polonsky’s clients was preparing to depart after a session. Dr. Polonsky, who had actually been trained in the martial arts, courageously stepped forward, getting to the man, before wrestling with him in the hallway corridor for control of the large weapon, when he then was shot and wounded in his side before subsequently dying there......Despite also being wounded by Plotts during the attack, Dr. Silverman is expected to make a full recovery......Gods Blessing;......Peace.....
