The money power structure always uses the media for their own purposes. The media needs that money to operate and stay in business and gladly offers to to the bidding of the highest client. Here in Taos we are at the mercy of two printed media, the Taos News and Bill Whaley of the former Horse Fly. When the Taos Town Council Voted to change the name of Kit Carson Park to Red Willow Park, both of those news sources sprang into action to create a controversy where non existed. The Taos News claimed this was done without community input. Yet the action was taken with the same notice of all other actions the Town takes, with proper notification. When the public was invited to participate 20 individuals testified in support of the change and two objected. Still the news reported this as controversial. The media, seeing that the public supports the name change tried another angle, They claimed Taos Pueblo was not notified. Why would that be important? What does the Pueblo have to do with what the Town does? The Pueblo does not notify the rest of the community of their meetings, but somehow this became an important issue. Because the media wanted it to be controversial and they went reaching for it.The Pueblo council says they are in favor of the name change, but did not like what it was changed to. The media jumps on the point that they did not like that the park was named Red Willow. Hard to understand why the Pueblo objected to that when they do not object to the Town and County being called Taos, which means Red Willow. In the end, the name change was rescinded. The Taos News and Bill Whaley got what they wanted. The people they act on behalf of got what they wanted. Just look at the back of your dollar bill and read the words around the Pyramid with the all seeing eye and you will know who is behind this. The ruling elite always needs to have their heroes upheld as model citizens. They need Kit Carson to remain, and they got what they wanted.
