The monthly meeting of the Lee County Democratic Party will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 7 P.M., at the Lee County Democratic Headquarters, 143 Charlotte Avenue. Moral Mondays at the North Carolina State Legislature will be the topic of the program. A number of local people have participated in these protests that have been held every Monday on Halifax Mall, just behind the NC Legislative Building where the NC General Assembly is in session. Some of our local participants will be sharing their experiences about why they have chosen to attend and support these protests and what they hope will be accomplished by these protests, now called a movement. Thousands of people from across the state have come to Raleigh to support the Moral Monday protests, and several hundred have been willing to be arrested for civil disobedience. Phil Gurkin, one of our strong activist Democrats, did this several weeks ago and will be sharing his story. If you can, please bring a folding chair with you to the meeting. The next Moral Monday will be Monday, June 24, beginning at 5 P.M. If you are interested, you can join others who will be meeting at headquarters at 3:15 P.M. to carpool to Raleigh. This Monday, the 24th, is being called Mass Moral Monday and will feature labor, women, and economic justice. Got to naacp.nc.org/ for more information. The North Carolina Democratic Party is supporting the Forward Together Movement. Please contact Senator Rabin (919.733.5748; [email protected]), Representative Stone (919.715.3026; [email protected]), Representative McManus (919.773.0057; [email protected]), and Governor McCrory (919.733.5811) to urge them to reject a budget that favors the wealthy while irrevocably damaging our public schools and services. Please attend the meetings of the Lee County Board of County Commissioners, the Sanford City Council, and the Law and Finance Committee meetings. The presence of Democrats is very important at these meetings, and you are invited to sign up for public comments at the meetings of the LCBOC abd the SCC.
