The more extreme right would like voters to lose confidence in government and policies that are for the public good so they doomed Obamacare even in the face of the successes Krugman mentions (Romneycare in Massachusetts, for example). Words like socialism are evil words thrown about. Oh wait! Lets not remember that almost all of us went through a publicly funded school system that functions well, not perfectly, but has us among the most literate and highly educated people, and gives us a fighting chance to succeed. Its a pay it forward system. I dont have kids but my taxes help to pay for your kids. The extreme right would have us not see the successes in order to allow more privatization, putting power in the hands of even fewer then we have now, and corporate profits? Just consider how well connected to corporations many in Congress are, on both sides of the aisle. The far right doesnt seem to mind corporate welfare taxation laws and bailout schemes which do well under their policies.
