The music we love is a culmination of our exposure through out - TopicsExpress

The music we love is a culmination of our exposure through out life. For example my father raised me on classic rock and the blues. Somehow Hair Metal got thrown in there and I blame that on Auntie G. Meanwhile my big sis and bro were exposing me to mainstream 80s (and we all now what fantastic music they produced.) As I got older I began to develope a taste for rebellion, thus punk surfaced for me. I also became aware of mainstream media. Being a product of Orange County, there was no way to escape the gloriousness of sublime and no doubt, through which reggae and ska. In the midst of all this new discovery reefer started accelerating the process. About 15 years of age I contracted the musical equivalent to HIV, known as popitis. I started listening to Britney Spears and NSYNC. Remember, I didnt have full blownsies, so I wasnt listening to all the others and while Im mostly free of the virus, i still have the occasional Miley Cyrus side effect. Moving on... Getting older has a funny way of making you want to be closer to the roots you spent your entire adolescence trying to evade, but now I have a computer and access to endless music. I am now enjoying complete works of every artist I spent 2 decades enjoying. Now, 3 decades in to life Im singing my son songs of my past and realize that he is being exposed to everything from The Beatles and BB King to Nirvana, Sublime, and some very unfortunate 90s pop... I wonder what will become of him.
