The mysterious power of the Internet: though I get mail pretty often from gun nuts condemning the anti-Second Amendment stance of my column, Im actually a gun owner and occasional shooter. Id never written a column advocating gun control until after the Newtown murders, and even that was more a condemnation of Wayne Lapierre, the NRA loonies and historys worst Congress than anything else. Recently a relative who was oversupplied with handguns gave me a Glock 17, a semi-auto pistol with panache. I bought a box of ammunition, ran about 20 rounds through it to be sure I knew how to work it, cleaned it and put it away. Thats all--I didnt register it, write about or even talk about it. But for about two weeks, Ive been getting catalogs full of Glock parts, fund-raising letters from gun groups and e-mail offers of everything from concealed-carry holsters to laser sights. Howd they know? The gun nuts answer will be that Obamas tightening the noose, but Im just impressed by the marketing.
