The nations largest cybersecurity competition for college - TopicsExpress

The nations largest cybersecurity competition for college students, also known as the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, is taking place in San Antonio this weekend. The national championship included schools from all over the country and brought security experts and recruiters to town. The national championship network this year is an online game hosting provider. So what the students have is a small business network thats running game hosting servers. They are securing and defending those game hosting servers. They are keeping them alive, said Competition Director Dwayne Williams. The competition showcased 10 finalists out of what started as 180. The schools we have this year, theres a whole variety on the list. We have our defending champions, (the) Rochester Institute of Technology is back. You have the United States Air Force Academy and the only team from Texas is Southern Methodist University, Williams said. The championship gives students real-world scenarios and they must protect their networks at all costs. We have a live red team, which provides that real-world bad guy aspect. So the red team is attacking the students, trying to break in. The students job is to keep them out and try to keep the business running, said Williams. The national champion will be named Sunday at the Marriot Riverwalk. The champion will be awarded the Alamo Cup. #KSATnews #KSATnews
