The new Ambassador in Tripoli Hans Sandee - who since the temporary closure of the embassy in Tripoli operates form Tunis - gave a speech at a workshop on “Local Governance in Libya” organized by VNGi & CLG in Djerba, Tunisia on 29th September 2014. Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands remains committed in its support. Ambassador Sandee stressed that the Netherlands remains committed to support Libya. He underlined that Local governance is a key element to institution building in Libya. Topics like urban planning and financial management are important tools, and the same goes for Communication with civil society, municipality councils and the central government are crucial factors for the success of local governance. The Ambassador also referred to the start that very day of the dialogue led by UN SRSG Leon in the City of Ghadames and expressed the hope that this dialogue would lead to a cease fire and a political solution for the problems of Libya. He added that such a political solution would undoubtedly contribute to creating the ripe conditions for the further development and strengthening of local governance in the whole of Libya.
