The new Senate should keep the ETS. Not just until next week, for good. I wrote to the Senators to tell them. grns.mp/xbench-ETS #auspol We already have an Emissions Trading Scheme. It’s designed to connect with international schemes on July 1, 2015. So let’s strengthen our existing ETS - we don’t need a new one. All crossbench Senators should take the time to review our climate legislation properly. A decision this important should not be rushed. Our future and our childrens future depends on it. Our climate legislation is working to reduce pollution. Energy sector emissions have already reduced 9% since its introduction. Why scrap an effective policy when the public haven’t even had the chance to look at the detail, or submit contributions to an alternative? Renewable energy jobs are reliant on consistent climate policy. We shouldnt put these jobs at risk by tearing down the policy scaffolding which supports them. Our Emissions Trading Scheme is making money for taxpayers. We need it to protect Australians from Tony Abbott’s brutal budget measures. It’s great the Palmer United Party Senators want to keep the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, the Renewable Energy Target and the Climate Change Authority. But our current Emissions Trading Scheme puts a price on pollution and is the cheapest and most effective climate change policy. We should keep it.
