The oil company decided to employ one hundred fresh graduates. The process was very vigorous. More than ten thousand graduates applied for the job and professionals were hired to make the selection. They started the cumbersome elimination process to select the best one hundred graduates from ten thousand applicants. In this era when unemployment has reached unacceptable 90%, it is expected that anyone that sees the hope of possible employment should be committed. This process of elimination had dragged for four months and finally the professional eliminators submitted one hundred names to the oil company. Tickets were sent to the one hundred lucky ones and when they arrived in the venue of the high tech meeting with the MD of the oil company, they were all lodged in state of the art hotels. This meeting served as admission ceremony. They were to shake the hand of the MD and be admitted as workers in the company. Start-on-salary was US$4,300.00 monthly for each. It was indeed a lucrative job. All the successful applicants were happy. Who wouldn’t be? They know that their success in life were on the verge of starting for real. The instruction from the coordinator, as all the applicants were seated in the high tech hall, was simple. Turn off all your phones. And expectedly, all the applicants turned their phones off. The hall was as dead as a grave yard as they waited for the MD. If a pin drops in this hall, one can hear the sound. Then fifteen minutes later, door opens and this is the MD. After all protocols were observed, the man started to address the lucky applicants. Then the devil showed himself, one phone rings in the crowd. All eyes turn towards that side to behold this beautiful babe, one of the lucky applicants, as she bends and was hushed, talking to someone. She ends the call and the coordinator asked her to stand and leave the hall. She was trying to explain. But tell me-who is the fool that will listen to her? That was it. She came this close, but lost everything eventually. Do you know what happened? A guy, a presumed rich guy she met on one of the social networks, was returning from Switzerland for her that same day. He had loads of things for her. I presume this guy she never met was more important than a career in the oil company. Turn off your phones, she kept hers on because a guy was coming and she doesn’t want to miss his call. She picked the call, but she lost the job. When she finally met the guy, she met a Casanova that was simply looking for a loose babe to warm his bed. He never came with any commitment. Common sense is surely not as common as many think. Turn off your phone when asked to do so. You never can tell what would happen next. Babes should understand that a bird in hand is worth more than a million in the bush.
