The old and the new can not founction at the same time,it is either you stay in the old things you`v been doing before that is clear to you that is not working or you let go of it to enter a new level. The point is that most people want to be here and there at the same time, most people are in the old level they are in but still want to enter and founction in the new level(life). For there to be an entering and founctioning in new level there must be a forgoing of old things, some old friends, environment, lifestyle only then can you enter the new things(life) that has already been prepared and kept for you but the door to it is letting go the old.To some there is an old lifestyle you need to let go,to some is an old friend,to some is an old same mentality,to some is an old self,to some is an old gathering/environment.You dont dwell in the past and expect a new thing to happen. It wont work for the old will always hinder, contaminate and distract you in the new when you stay there(luke5:36:38).When you dwell in the old you will still be the same you you`v ever known yourself to be.Peoples joy disapear and dont last when they always dwell in the old because there is no newness, all they think is the old, backwardness.God can never do a new thing in a man`s life when the man is still in the old(Ish42:8-9),it will be useless to the man because he still has in him(her) the same old mentality and you dont handle the new things of God with old mentality and old self, thats why God said in the part b of that verse 9 that before the new thing shall spring forth he will tell them so they prepare for it,set their mind and position themselves well to recieve it.There must be a newness of everything. You cant stay in the old ways and have new result,Until you change your old things(self) and make self withdrawal from them you wont walk in the newness of (life)things.Selah
