The only serious error I find in this argument is an assumption included in the conclusion, that public opinion affects government policy. If that were true, the USA wouldnt be bombing other countries who havent attacked us, giving massive funds to corporate fat cats who do us no good, or ignoring the genuine needs of people who live here. The only hope I can see for steering the US government involves massive and continuing general strikes, broad boycotts, tax refusal, and nonviolent noncompliance. Weve got to refuse to play along with corporate exploiters and the governments they own, while simultaneously building functional communities that use local control to meet local needs through carefully sustainable use of local resources. In brief, weve got to learn to grow our own food, pedal our own bicycles, and care for our neighbors without ever visiting Walmart again. Weve got our work cut out for us, but what have we got to lose?
