The opening ceremony of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Cambodia 2014. In its 20th year, CARAT is an annual, bilateral exercise series with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and the armed forces of nine partner nations including, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor-Leste. Around 600 Cambodia sailors and 400 of their American counterparts are set to perform joint exercises through Thursday. This training exercises is meant to combat security issues such as piracy and trafficking as well as natural disasters. The Royal Cambodian Air Force will also participate for the first time in a practice search-and-rescue mission.
