The opposition is proudly claiming that the proposed OB school district will commit to the highest per student spending in the state. Coming in at a whopping $15,000+, they will outspend Mountain Brook by $3,335 per student. I dont want to sound mean spirited but does this necessarily translate to a quality education? Some people apparently believe that throwing money at problems solves everything. Consider the experience of the District of Columbia which spent $18,475 per student in 2011 and reports less than stellar student performance. Ditto for New York City at $19,076 per student, and Boston City Schools at $19,181 per student. Conversely one might examine the experience of the Catholic schools which historically spend much less than their secular counterparts and have consistently produced a better product. I will though give the opposition credit for stating in their release of 8/13 that a good education is not all about money. I just wish they would recognize that its our money thats at stake.
