The oppression of the African American people in this country was facilitated in large part by a regime of racist terror that served to threaten the life of any nigger who did not know his place. Stay in your place boy, was a cruel warning to any African American man, young or old, who showed the slightest inclination to even think of challenging the racist status quo. The psychological slavery created by this system was broken down, in large part, by the fearless oratory of the likes of Malcolm X. Muhammad Ali was also a pioneering force in this regard. This poem is one of the best examples of Alis courageous voice, and illustrates, for those who do not know, why he was and will always be, the Peoples Champ!
