The other day heading home in a taxi, I noticed a police constable - TopicsExpress

The other day heading home in a taxi, I noticed a police constable on a motorbike taking a turn at the Priyadarshini the circle. He wasnt wearing a helmet, and just a short while back, I had noticed traffic cops stopping bikers not wearing helmets. Not able to bear this double standards, I told the taxi driver to speed up and when we were alongside the cop, I called out to him and asked him why he wasnt wearing a helmet. He did not reply, but some distance later, he pulled his bike in front of my taxi and shouted at me to come out. When I walked up to him, he angrily said to me that he was rushing to attend to someone who was dying and I should know the urgency of the case. I did not press the matter further and I walked back to the taxi. My question is, were I, in similar circumstances, to ride a bike without a helmet would the cops let me go? I increasingly find those in part, even those having the slightest brush with it, like minor functionaries in a government service, wear the badges of power on their vehicles e.g. POLICE, JUDGE ( of some court or the other) or some or the other party flag. All this, not only to flaunt their clout, but also to protect themselves from the arm of the law.
