The other night I had a dream – in the dream I was fishing and I kept knocking my bait in the water before I could cut some to put on the hook and the fish were feeding on it but obviously not being caught which caused me to feel frustrated, then when I got a hook the fish weren’t taking because the hooks I had were made of cut outs from an ice cream container lid or a bent paper clip, then in desperation I jumped in the water to try and grab the fish but I became aware of the dangers of the water and some of the types of fish. At the end of the dream I saw a big hook, a real one, and I thought that is what I should have been using the whole time… The bait falling in the water spoke of all the efforts of food banks, bbq’s, all the things where the church has attempted to meet needs and has cost time and money that people have taken advantage of with no effect, the plastic hooks and paper clips signified the efforts of outreach that had potential but lacked the understanding of what was really required, the idea was right, but the understanding of how to really implement it was lacking. The jumping in the water was significant of going in the deep end un prepared, not sure of how to present the gospel but in desperation we want salvations. Church it is time to be equipped. It is time to use a real hook, bait it right and preach the gospel as it was intended so you catch a fish for life!
