The panel confirmed for the Theresa Byrnes Artist Talk this Saturday is shaping up to be a fantastic one! JANET CLAYTON GALLERY PRESENTS THERESA BYRNES ARTIST IN CONVERSATION WITH ANNE MARSH, MARTIN NEWMAN & JULIE RRAP Saturday July 12, from 2pm to 4pm Janet Clayton Gallery presents an artist talk with New York based Australian artist Theresa Byrnes in conjunction with her current exhibition on show Sparrow Heart. This conversation will explore Theresas practice and the relationship between performance and painting. We welcome three eminent guest panellists: Dr Anne Marsh, Professorial Research Fellow at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, author of Performance Ritual Document (2014), LOOK: Contemporary Australian Photography (2010), Pat Brassington: This is Not a Photograph (2006), The Darkroom: Photography and the Theatre of Desire (2003) and Body and Self: Performance Art in Australia, 1969-1992 (1993). She is a contributing editor for Eyeline Contemporary Visual Arts and she publishes regularly in the arts press. Art critic Martin Newman, former e-editor at The Daily Mirror and long time blogger on art and technology and media commentator on Five Live & other radio and television broadcasters, will also be on the panel. Newman has reviewed Theresas work in New York. Artist Julie Rrap will also be on the discussion panel to discuss her practice in tandem with Theresas work. Rrap’s involvement with body art and performance in the mid-70s in Australia continued to influence her practice as it expanded into photography, painting, sculpture and video in an on-going project concerned with representations of the body. In 1995, she held a survey of her work at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne and in 2007, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney held a major retrospective of Rrap’s work titled Body Double, curated by Victoria Lynn. Rrap is represented by Roslyn Oxley 9 Gallery, Sydney and Arc One Gallery, Melbourne. For more info & to RSVP to this free admission event contact: [email protected]
