The parts of the Labor for Refugees motion that were not agreed - TopicsExpress

The parts of the Labor for Refugees motion that were not agreed between the Right and Left. Points One and Two formed the basis of the Left Amendment that was closely voted on but not counted. Long story as to why only points one and two formed the basis of the Left Amendment. The five clauses that were omitted from the motion already existed in our current NSW ALP refugee policy and we pointed this out to Delegates in our speech. However, in spite of that, the Right refused to support them. They were to: 1. Reject the excision of any part of Australia from the migration zone. 2. Take no action to transfer Australia’s legal and moral obligations towards those seeking asylum in our country to our neighbours. Those seeking asylum with Australian territory should be processed and resettled in Australia and have access to the Australian legal system. 3. End privately operated detention facilities. 4. Reject the Liberal Party’s discriminatory policy of mandatory behaviour protocols; 5. Reject any changes to the definition of “serious harm” or “persecution” including any change to the risk threshold from the “real change test” to the “more likely than not test”.
