The people of Ferguson, Mo and other areas where there is a minority population that is in the majority and Black men are being killed and no one seems to be doing anything about it, can actually help themselves. They can mobilize their residents to take steps to empower themselves. Burning down their houses and places where they do business may lighten the frustration and feelings of helplessness for a short while. What they can do to affect changes and the effect it will have on their lives is to empower their community throught the ballot and the vote. If they are 62% of the population, there is no reason they have to beg for anything and that includes the right to be treated fairly and just. Fergusons community leaders need to register all who are eliguible to vote and make sure they go to the polls on election day. Once you have the power to elect the mayor and other elected and appointed officials, people start treating you in a respectul and dignified manner. On second thought, this is a remedy for some of the ills that affect our own city. Lesson to be learned: If you dont bother to vote, dont expect changes and dont complain when it does not happen. Also, I heard there is going to be a Peaceful Rally @ Millicent and Bauiley Ave this afternoon @ 5 p.m. to protest the verdict in a Peaceful manner. If the rally is not peaceful, I am not goimg to be a part of it. I am not sure who is sponsoring it but I got several calls from prominent individuals to be there.
