The people of France did not say their President is weak and clueless. In a show of patriotism and unity they denounce terrorism and stand with their President. On the contrary, in Nigeria element of some religious fanatics and ethnic bigots in the Northern section of the country have vowed to make the country ungovernable for the President who happens to be a Christian from the South. Instead of denouncing terrorism, they will applaud terrorist attack to gain cheap political points. The fight against terrorism is a combined effort between the government and the citizens. It becomes difficult for any individual to fight terrorism when a section of the country promise to make the country ungovernable for that individual. But theres one thing we must all be clear about: terrorism is not the pursuit of legitimate goals by some sort of illegitimate means. Whatever the murderers may be trying to achieve, creating a better world certainly isnt one of their goals. Instead they are out to murder innocent people. Everybodys worried about stopping terrorism. Well, theres a really easy way: stop participating in it. Terrorism is a psychological warfare. Terrorists try to manipulate us and change our behavior by creating fear, uncertainty, and division in society. Of course, the overwhelming majority of Muslims are not terrorists or sympathetic to terrorists. Equating all Muslims with terrorism is stupid and wrong. But acknowledging that there is a link between Islam and terror is appropriate and necessary. If APC had introduced a young vibrant, educated and intelligent candidate with better ideas to advance our nation, maybe my mind would have been swayed to vote for them but as it is I will stand with President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the democratically elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
