The perception that the Republicans are the party of business, and their strong support from business lobbies, is quite paradoxical. In fact, all of the worst stock market crashes in the last century have occurred under Republicans, followed by the Depression and all of the worst recessions in the last century. Business people and ordinary voters do not support the Republicans due to their great economic performance, but due to shared social conservatism. They are frequently extremely dishonest about this.
