The photo below is Rosie, she is a good example of an ideal weight for a Labrador. She weighs just under 25kgs, she is well muscled, has a defined waist and a tucked abdomen. Unfortunately, we see a lot of overweight labs in the clinic and we do run weight clinics to help people with their animals but it is a recurrent problem. Labs actually need a lot more exercise than people think. They are working dogs and are built to be outside all day retrieving game and running about in fields and woods. They have a lot of stamina and are very intelligent so it is important to keep their minds, as well as their bodies, agile and occupied. If you are worried about your pets weight, please contact reception on 01592 753231 and book a free appointment with the nurses.
