The poisoned or The testament of the poisoned is an old theme of some italian ballads, with a central theme and some little differences depending on the region (Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, ecc...). Its not clear if the origin of the song is from Italy and then it spreaded to the rest of Europe, but in Italy this ballad is quoted in a theatrical opera called Lincatenatura del bianchino, dated on 1629. The common elements are often: a man poisoned (named or not), his return to mothers home, a woman/lady/sister who poisoned him, and the final curse to her before to die. The first video (I found a translation on internet) is the version from Emilia Romagna, the second is from Lombardia: Where were you yesterday evening, Enrico my son? Where were you, o gentle knight?
