The poor Banana: Now coming back to climate disadvantages banana desert like hot, dry (sometimes floody) & now chilling sub-tropics of Sindh, non-subsidized, ignored and under threat from panama wilt & banana fruit imports from other countries...... Believe it or not but still it feeds millions............no crop is better than banana when it comes to generating rural employment............round the year............ Due to consistent ignorance nothing concrete is achieved.............about its sustainability........even in 21st century where we all have an access & linkages all over the globe with banana world.......but we all seem helpless.... Rather than putting energies to improve knowledge base with the introduction of modern sub-tropical banana production technologies, disease management, post harvest etc... the government especially Federal Sindh government is in deep hibernation has decided to discourage its production by this lame excuse it consumes more irrigation water & our climate is not suitable for it......so better to import from other countries like India & Philippines.... Had ever any government whether Sindh or Federal set a single demo site on banana? especially for the growers to showcase improvements on various aspects of banana......so to say higher efficiency irrigation with 5 years complete data..... How come they blame farmers for not changing?...............from traditional to modern...... So far whatever being done its sole efforts by farmers only........... At adaptive site: physical identification of 1 month to 6 months older banana suckers for their ability to shoot various types of banana bunches from inferior to good quality in summer........especially after winter.........All are tagged with different color ribbons, each color represent age of sucker. ....each suckers tagged with color ribbon photographed along with predicted bunch fall month/date and quality, comments from the grower & especially its workers are recorded.............Half will receive non stop fertilizer application from March to November and Half will not receive fertilizer application especially in May, June upto 15th July......... Basic idea is to observe along with growers & workers the impact of winter which means lower temp & shorter day length this winter was too harsh for banana on banana bunch quality in hot summer besides impact of fertilizers application especially in hot summer on banana bunch quality.... All these suckers & their growth will be monitored & photographed all along with the grower & workers on monthly basis.......
