The pothole saga and its consequences. Our esteemed government - TopicsExpress

The pothole saga and its consequences. Our esteemed government spend R250,000,000 (or there about) on Nkandla debacle, but cant fix our roads. The consequences are far reaching as is illustrated below. We hit a huge pothole just outside Lydenberg. Burst three tyres. 6 people stranded in the darkness (including two British visitors) wondering if we are going to be robbed, assaulted or worse, while we are waiting for a low bed truck to arrive. Police cant send anyone out because the dont have anyone to send. Not a priority for our government. Eventually low bed arrives and drives us back to Lydenberg. Everything is shut by 10 pm on a Thursday night, except for Legends Sports Bar. The wonderful people of Lydenberg are very interested in our predicament and offer their sincere sympathies and tell us that this is a regular occurrence. The minister of something or the other has visited and told them that there is no money for road repairs. He also says that it is a problem everywhere. Legends closes at midnight, but the young manager offers to let us stay in the warmth of their premises until 2 am if necessary. Such generosity. No suitable tyres available in Lydenberg! No chance of getting the vehicle repaired. Two of our family members leave Johannesburg to come and rescue us. They arrive at around 12:30 am. We drive back to Johannesburg and arrive home at around 4 am. Next morning my hubby finds 3 tyres and puts them in a vehicle with two of his staff. They leave for Lydenberg. They arrive and one person (Andy) decides to stay behind to drive the damaged vehicle home once the tyres have been replaced. The other person (Obed) leaves to return to Johannesburg. Obed gets as far as Middleburg when he gets a phone call from Andy to say that there is damage to the suspension as well so the vehicle cant be taken yet. Obed turns around and returns to Lydenberg to fetch Andy. They are driving back to Johannesburg when a car in front of them does a U-turn! They collide with this vehicle. Driven, of course, by an UNLICENCED driver! Our vehicle is probably a write off. Thankfully neither Andy or Obed were seriously hurt. They were taken off to hospital and released later. Yet another staff member, Zakes, drove out to fetch them. We still dont have our vehicle back. Many people have been inconvenienced. Huge costs have been incurred and are still mounting. DOES OUR GOVERNMENT CARE? Absolutely not - there are no consequences that hurt them in this scenario. They simply shrug and go off and waste our hard earned tax money on self enrichment. One pothole has had a huge impact on us and this saga is far from over. Makes me so angry. It is only by some miracle that no one was seriously hurt or died here. Why did we (not me - I voted for change) vote these useless people back into power???? Thats my rant for the day ..........
