The power of smell has always fascinated me. The smell of fresh - TopicsExpress

The power of smell has always fascinated me. The smell of fresh cut grass takes me back to days playing in the yard with my siblings, chasing after our father on the lawn mower. A small whiff of “Prell” shampoo takes me back to such wonderful memories at church camp. It must have been an inexpensive brand as I often recall using it during those years. The smell of cinnamon takes me to a place of sitting around the Christmas tree listening to my parents read the story of Christ’ birth. Not always are the smells we take in of pleasant thoughts or fond memories though. Ever since I was pregnant with my first born, the smell of nacho cheese sauce has nauseated me. :) In my readings this morning, I find that the apostle Paul reminds us that we can be a sweet aroma in the nostrils of God. (2 Corinthians 2:15) I imagine that if the aroma we put off can be sweet, than surely it could also be the other. With a valuable perfume, you often find that it will have subtle appeal. That even a small dab can give off the most long-lasting and pleasant of smells. With a cheap perfume, the aroma can be pungent and short-lived. I pray that our lives today put off a sweet aroma before our Father. I pray that this same aroma draws the people around us closer to Him and proves long-lasting.
