The power of the publics voice -- or what happens when it goes - TopicsExpress

The power of the publics voice -- or what happens when it goes unheard -- figured heavily into this weeks events and Byrons work on the campaign trail. Again and again we see the Parnell pattern of working for industry, rather than with industry. Again and again, Alaskans witness the upshot of being disenfranchised: a David and Goliath battle over oil taxes; a horrendous flood of toxic mine tailings near our border; a bill that Parnell put into law this week that muzzles citizens legal challenges to state projects (byronmallott/press/mallott-appalled-at-parnell-pattern-of-blocking-citizen-involvement/). Whats ironic about all this is that Byron started the week, first thing Monday morning, VOTING -- the most important voice each of us owns. (https://facebook/byronmallottalaska/photos/a.418294231627247.1073741835.400598963396774/554574627999206/?type=1&theater) (Voting is open NOW through Aug. 19.) As Byron told Ketchikan supporters yesterday, (krbd.org/2014/08/08/byron-mallot-wants-more-alaska-voice-in-state-government/) during his Skagway and Sitka boarding school experiences, he gained the realization that Alaska is an incredibly diverse place, very, very different from one part of this immense land to another. That in order to ultimately build this place in a way that embraced every Alaskan would take work, it would take reaching out, understanding, communication. I want to take back Alaska from the path we’re on, to work with Alaskans across the state and say ‘your voice will be heard.’” And, indeed, it will in a Mallott administration. Coming up this week: Byron proposes specific state actions to address climate change at the Arctic Development and Infrastructure conference and, at the Alaska Municipal League in Nome, promotes reinvigorating community power. Exercise YOUR right and responsibility TODAY -- go vote. And, as always, thank you, thank you, thank you.
