The probable effects of this decision frighten me. As someone who has been assaulted, condemned, and threatened with death while escorting women into family planning clinics for 18 years, I know what some of the antichoice protesters are capable of. I wish that the Justices had taken the time to personally observe the levels of hostility, intrusion, and desperation that patients experience from some of these people exercising their free speech before issuing this ruling. Perhaps they would then have seen that buffer zones actually reduced violence against these women. They worked.
