The problem for Lippi was: he went into the 2006 World Cup - TopicsExpress

The problem for Lippi was: he went into the 2006 World Cup possessed of two wonderfully gifted playmakers. There was Del Piero, Juves iconic No. 10, a little past his best at 31, perhaps, but still a player blessed with sumptuous control, flawless technique, preternatural vision and impudent imagination and then there was Francesco Totti, hometown hero at Roma, one of the most gifted fantasistes the Italian game had produced. And Lippi was bold enough to give them alternate starts meaning one of them had to sit on the bench. This time will Roy Hodgson be brave enough to do that with Lamps & Gerrard. PS- before u say they arent trequartista and can be played together technically unlike the italian pair; ask urself how successful had been the english pair up despite playing so many years together!!!
