The problem with these black men who happen to be Muslim is that they self-identify as Muslim or Arab first and not as Black at all. Islam as it has been practiced by Arabists is inherently and aggressively imperialistic: the taking of Arabic names; the demand of strict adherence to Islamist cultural practices that supplant those indigenous to the believer/subject peoples and an intolerance for deviation from narrowly proscribed religious beliefs, of codes of dress and conduct; the utter lack of respect for indigenous African culture (e.g., what happened with Dynastic Egypt; what happened in Mali with the destruction of the tombs; the horrors of what is ongoing in Sudan; what is happening in Somalia, Kenya and Nigeria; and, while not in Africa, what the Taliban did to the massive stone buddhas carved into the side of a mountain in Hindu-Kush); the fostering of not only a non-Black identity among subject peoples, but of ANTI-black pigmentocracies with an anti-Black ethos that militates against Black solidarity and towards pan-Arabism -- even though Arab culture is deeply, virulently racist. And that racism and contempt extends to the blacks of the Indian subcontinent and the people of Southeast Asia. Islam in the hands of Arabs and Arab wannabes has ALWAYS been the enemy of African people.
