The promise of Christ’s advent shows how great He is. He came - TopicsExpress

The promise of Christ’s advent shows how great He is. He came once to sorrow and shame. The way the Lord was treated is still a scandal. Nobody ever CAME like Jesus came. He came from Godhead to manhood, and put on a garment of flesh. What a coming! A few shepherds talked about it on that first Christmas, but the whole world talks about it today, and more every day. Jesus knew it would all take Him to Calvary. Terrible treatment was handed out to Him. He was “despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrow…” No hate could have been worse. This world inflicted wounds upon His very heart. Then He went away. Who could blame Him? He carried the scars of hideous torture and presented His injuries back home in glory, which He had ‘received in the house of His friends’ (Zechariah 13:6). They never heal. He is ‘the Lamb as it had been slain’ (Revelation 5:6). Yet, despite His rejection, He is coming back! That tells you who He is. O what a Christ! His generous and forgiving love for a sinful world. It makes us stand back speechless in amazement. He wants to come back and has planned it ever since He left us, like the Bridegroom who longs for the Bride. His love burns on. He can never forget us. His heart is a bright star in the dark night of this world. His love did not burn itself out on the Cross. Calvary is not an extinct volcano. Our Gospel message is about Christ crucified, but if it leaves out the fact that the Crucified One is also the Coming One, we are left with only an abstract theory. He couldn’t be what He once was and not come back. He must come back to finish what He began. After all, His first coming won our hearts. He made us want Him. He drew us. He set us longing. We love Him. He has no intention of disappointing us. “Even so come Lord Jesus.” (Rev. 22,20) God bless you. Your Friend Isaac Roger
