The prototype of a cradle of Cork, designed by two architects and designed by a craftsman Algarve, will be presented as one of the five finalists from an international tender pieces of eco-furniture design fair in Milan Milan Design Week 2014 , held in that Italian city between 8 and 13 April. berco_cortica Cork, only raw material used in the crib Sleep Tight (expression that, in Portuguese, is equivalent to sleep tight), has the advantages that it is 100% natural, waterproof, insulating, keeping the temperature, non flammable and has a warm touch, explained the various contributors to the Lusa project. The concept of nest inspired the creators Karin Pereira and Sofia Chinita, in partnership with the project Algarve TASA (Ancestral Techniques, current solutions) and a company of São Brás de Alportel, which offered 300 pounds of granulated Cork, managed to give body to the prototype that is presented next Friday in Milan (Italy). Antonio Luz, Algarve craftsman who built the crib, with more than one metre long and 40 pounds of weight, told Lusa that this was the first time in 30 years working with Cork, who made something and was proud of the final product, which gave too much work and that it must be very comfortable. One of the authors of the project, Karin Parker, explained that the idea is that the crib can be used as a bed for babies up to one year of age, and may then be adapted a mast and a sail to convert the play on a toy, in this case, a childs scale boat, using the oscillating movement of the piece. We wanted to make a versatile piece and with greater use in order to extend its period of life. Its not a cradle for only one child, will endure in time, said the architect, who lives in Oeiras, estimating that the piece can be used for children up to four years. According to João, Minister of ProActiveTour, which manages the TASA project since it will be 2013 and company responsible for marketing, the production price of these parts can reach 1,600 euros, adding the cost of Cork and the labor, which means that the selling price to the public should around 2,000 euros. It is clearly a product that goes into more niche market of luxury and that meets an audience with health and environmental concerns, he said, stressing that the bet is to export, in a perspective of internationalization of contemporary uses of traditional arts in the Algarve. António Correia, of Novacortiça, a company that provided the raw material for the conception of the play, said Lusa believe in success of the crib, arguing that this will hardly become a product produced on an industrial scale, by the high costs of production. It will be an elite that can spend a reasonable amount to feed the production of these units, said the administrator of the company, located in São Brás de Alportel, where will be manufactured cribs, at the marketing stage. Despite being aware of the high costs that involve the production of the play, Karin Parker still retains hope that the crib can turn out to be a more democratic, it wasnt seen as a product of luxury. The TASA project was created by the Regional Co-ordinating Commission of Algarve in 2010 and 2013 that is managed by ProActiveTur, based in Loulé. The birthplace of Cork competes among the five classified worldwide to the premium Green Furniture Award. The winners will be announced next Friday during the Milan Design Week . By: Agência Lusa
